The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said two trucks were damaged and a driver was injured as it tried to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza City today.
The ICRC says a convoy of five trucks and two other vehicles was on its way to deliver "life-saving medical supplies to health facilities", including the Palestinian Red Crescent Society's Al-Quds hospital, when it was "hit by fire". The humanitarian organization was unable to immediately identify the source of the fire.
She added that trucks rerouted after the accident to ensure she was able to successfully deliver medical supplies to Al-Shifa Hospital. The convoy later accompanied six ambulances carrying seriously injured patients to the Rafah crossing, but the head of the ICRC stressed that providing aid during the war has become difficult.
" These are not the conditions in which humanitarian personnel can work. Ensuring that vital aid can reach medical facilities is a legal obligation under international humanitarian law ," said William Schomburg, who heads the ICRC sub-delegation in Gaza.
