The US has opposed the idea of occupying Gaza and has warned Israel that there will be consequences if it intends to do so.
The White House said on Tuesday it does not believe Israeli forces should reoccupy Gaza following comments by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the country will have "overall security responsibility" in Gaza for an "indefinite period" after the war ends.

The latest warning from the White House comes after Netanyahu told ABC News on Monday that Gaza should be governed by "those who do not want to continue the path of Hamas."
It was one of the first hints Netanyahu has given about his vision for post-war Gaza and suggests a divergent view from that of the US, including President Joe Biden's own statements about what the future of the strip would look like. .
