Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic rushed to the new elections under the influence of scandals, the decline of his party's popularity and the Kosovo issue, according to an article by MDR, the German public broadcaster.
According to them, despite the "stimulating campaign" against the opposition, the victory of Vucic's party is not guaranteed.
"To be or not to be, this is how the parties in power and the opposition mark the early parliamentary, local, Belgrade and Vojvodina elections on December 17" , MDR wrote.
The incitement campaign against the opposition is taking place in the media loyal to the government, Serbia is covered with posters in which the opposition politicians are presented as traitors, foreign mercenaries, fascists and criminals.
As for Kosovo, there is increasing pressure on Vucic from the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during her last visit to the region.
MDR writes that the "de facto" recognition of Kosovo would be "a political death" for the "populist" Vucic, so the latter, according to them, is trying to gain time by entering the elections and not facing the opposition of the will of leaders of the West.
