"Collaborated with Hamas", the scandal of the UN agency, bigger than

A number of countries withdrew their aid following the exposure of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.

The United Nations reacted harshly, showing that without these aids, they will not be able to provide the residents of Gaza with the appropriate assistance and said that they have launched an investigation, while the employees accused by Israel of collaborating with Hamas have been dismissed.

However, according to the "Wall Street Journal", the extent of the ties between the employees of this agency and the terrorists in the Gaza Strip is greater than thought. Not only 12 people, as previously announced, collaborated in the terrorist attack of Hamas on October 7 against Israel.

About 10% of the nearly 12,000 employees of the organization in the Gaza Strip seem to have had ties to the terrorist organization or that of the Islamic Jihad, the American media reports, referring to the data of the secret services.

"UNRWA's problem is not that they are 'a few bad apples' that participated in the October 7 massacre," a senior Israeli official was quoted as saying. " The institution as such is a hotbed of the radical ideology of Hamas."

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced that nine of the twelve accused Agency officials had been released immediately. He announced that the suspects will be held accountable, including criminal prosecution. The agency was established in 1949 by the UN General Assembly.

Its purpose is to care for the needs of Palestinians registered as refugees and their displaced descendants or those who fled from the time of the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, as well as the First Arab-Israeli War that followed. From about 750,000 in 1948, their number has meanwhile increased to 5.9 million today./dw
