The European Union has taken urgent action in the face of escalating tensions with the United States, after US President Donald Trump vowed a new wave of punitive tariffs on EU member states, under the pretext that Washington is not being allowed to buy Greenland.
On Saturday evening, Cyprus, which currently holds the six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, announced that it had called an emergency meeting of ambassadors from the 27 member states, to be held on Sunday at 5:00 PM in Brussels.
The news is also confirmed by diplomatic sources within the EU, according to which the meeting is of a closed nature and with an agenda focused on the risk posed by Trump's recent approach towards European partners, as well as the discussion of a coordinated institutional response.
