US President Donald Trump has expressed his disappointment after phone calls with Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu. The White House chief of staff has publicly admitted that the talks did not produce positive results for peace.
"Very disappointed," Trump said of his recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose war in Ukraine is only getting worse and escalating, despite efforts to end it.
He was equally skeptical about the phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, at a time when the war in Gaza has entered a grim phase, accompanied by a severe humanitarian crisis.
"It was kind of disappointing ," Trump said, noting that the situation in the Middle East is also negatively affecting his party, where divisions over support for Israel are becoming increasingly deep.
According to Trump's account, Putin says one thing, then does something completely different from what he says.
Trump's anger with Putin has been growing for months, fueled in part by the US president's "inability" to leverage what he once considered a positive relationship into a successful peace deal.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu has tested Trump's patience with airstrikes in Syria and Gaza, where images of starving children have led to international protests.
Although President Trump had expressed confidence that his personal ties with Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu would help quickly resolve the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, these crises still continue without a visible solution, a result that is limiting Trump's chances of winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
Meanwhile, he is clearly frustrated that he cannot resolve crises better than former President Joe Biden, whom he considered a failure in foreign policy.
