Gaza Ceasefire Talks, Blinken Meets Netanyahu, Palestinian President

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

The purpose of this meeting is to reach an agreement to promote a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

"Blinken met with Abbas upon his arrival in Ramallah," a US official said.

Blinken earlier met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.

The US, Qatar and Egypt, the main mediators between Hamas and Israel, confirmed they have received a response from the Palestinian group to a framework agreement for a ceasefire and hostage exchange with Israel.

Hamas has proposed a 3-phase plan for a ceasefire in Gaza that includes a 135-day pause in fighting in exchange for the release of hostages.

Israel's war in the Palestinian enclave began after an October 7 attack by Hamas in which about 1,200 people were killed and about 240 people were taken hostage.

More than 100 hostages were released during a ceasefire in November in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners.

Israel's attacks have killed more than 27,000 Palestinians and displaced about 85% of Gaza's 2.3 million population, according to the UN.
