The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has left for Israel after the rekindling of the conflict in Gaza. Minutes before he climbed the steps of the plane that will send him to the Middle East, he said the US is determined to support Israel.
Blinken further added that such a terrorist attack and depravity of this level has not been seen in the Middle East since the time of ISIS.
" The United States has Israel's back. We stand firmly against terrorism. No, not since ISIS have we seen this kind of depravity. The significant military assistance requested by Israel is on the way and they anticipate more requests ," said Blinken.
The secretary of state also warned that the death toll would rise in the coming days. Asked if the US has advocated any degree of restraint on Israeli retaliation, he declined to comment on specifics, adding only that the US and Israel respect international law and the laws of war.
" We know that Israel will take all the precautions it can ," he said.
