For nearly a month, Iranians have been protesting with great courage and bravery against the mullahs’ dictatorship in their country, and the regime has responded with brutal force. Police, Revolutionary Guards, and Basij militias are mercilessly shooting peaceful, unarmed people. Horrific images and videos are being broadcast to the world via the Starlink satellite network, despite internet censorship. Iranian doctors and eyewitnesses report tens of thousands of deaths.
“As an eyewitness who was there from the beginning of the protests, I can say that the tragedies in Iran were much more horrific than reported in the media and on the internet.” A German-Iranian contacted BILD with this message, saying he wanted “the world to know how the Islamic Republic massacred our people and tried to cover up its crimes by shutting down the internet.”
Shahrokh Selahvarzi, 49, had been in Iran with his wife since December 25, 2025, to visit family. She is from Tehran, he from Khorramabad in the Lorestan region, about 400 kilometers southwest of the Iranian capital. Something was in the air, as prices were rising every day, and since merchants could no longer make a profit, they closed their shops and went on strike.
"They shot straight"
More and more people were taking to the streets to protest against the regime. "I participated in the protests in Iran, in 2009 (the Green Revolution), and I was very active then. I saw a lot of protests and a lot of brutality from the mullahs. But this time it was completely different. I saw such horrific scenes."
Especially after the Shah's son's call to take to the streets on January 8 and 9. "Those two days were terrible; they killed so many people."
Shahrokh Selahvarzi was in Khorramabad visiting his niece, who works at a small hospital. "She came to me and said, 'Uncle, there are six bodies here. They were in the emergency room and beat some people. Then they took all the wounded away.'"
The next day, he and his brother saw the mullahs' aides shooting someone in the head right in front of their eyes. "They shot straight at us. Before I worked as a journalist in Iran, I was in the army. I know all the weapons. They shot at us with different weapons and wounded many people. Two or three had an AK-47, the standard weapon of the Revolutionary Guard. They also used rifles and tear gas. But the young people tried to defend themselves with stones."

Snajperë në çati
Disa ditë më vonë, Shahrokh Selahvarzi ishte në Teheran dhe mësoi se grupet terroriste kishin vrarë të paktën 5 mijë njerëz vetëm në dy ditë. "As unë nuk mund ta besoja në fillim, derisa pashë videot e trupave. Mediat thonë se ka të paktën 12,000 të vdekur dhe mendoj se kjo është e mundur", tregon ai.
Edhe në Teheran, ai dëshmoi sulmet brutale të milicive dhe Gardës Revolucionare. “Kishte snajper në çati. E vura re sepse të shtënat tingëllonin krejtësisht ndryshe. I thashë vëllait tim se duhej të qëndronim të mbështetur pas murit, jo në mes të rrugës. Kishte kaq shumë prej tyre, sigurisht nuk mund ta provoj, por mendoj se ata kishin mbështetje nga grupe të tjera terroriste në Irak ose Afganistan. Ata nuk kanë pasur kurrë kaq shumë njerëz më parë. Ata ishin kudo; më habiti dhe pyesja veten se si ishte e mundur kjo”, tregon ai.
A e ka shtypur brutaliteti kryengritjen iraniane? A ka fituar regjimi? “Iranianët janë të tronditur. Ende nuk ka internet. Deri më tani, nuk kishim idenë se çfarë po ndodhte në qytete të tjera. Pa internet, nuk dimë asgjë për këtë. Dhe mullahët po përhapin mesazhin se nëse dikush del në rrugë, është i vdekur.”

"Regjimi i mullahëve ka vdekur"
Pastaj ai shton: “njerëzit kishin shpresa kaq të mëdha për Trumpin, por ai nuk bëri asgjë”.
“Unë mendoj se mullahët me siguri mund t’i mbajnë njerëzit larg rrugëve për disa muaj. Por nga ana tjetër, gjërat janë tepër të shtrenjta. Sigurisht 50 ose 60 përqind e gjërave kushtojnë njësoj si në Gjermani. Dhe njerëzit nuk po fitojnë asgjë”.
Një gjyqtar merr 500 milionë rialë (afërsisht 330 euro). Mësuesit marrin rreth 200 euro, një oficer policie rreth 150 euro në muaj, raporton Selahvarzi.
Dhe kështu ai përfundon: “Iranianët thjesht nuk mund të dorëzohen sepse nuk kanë më asgjë për të humbur. Kjo është ajo që thoshin njerëzit në rrugë. Në protestat e mëparshme, njerëzit ishin gjithashtu të guximshëm. Por tani ata thjesht nuk kanë më frikë. Unë besoj se kjo do të mbetet kështu. Kur interneti të jetë disi i rikthyer dhe njerëzit të dinë se çfarë ka ndodhur, atëherë ata do të kthehen në rrugë, por ne kemi nevojë për mbështetjen e vendeve perëndimore. Në Iran, njerëzit po pyesin veten pse nuk po bëjnë asgjë. Pse ende duan t’i mbështesin mullahët?”.
