The Minister of Education in the Netherlands, Dennis Wiersma, has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Rutte, after accusations brought against him by some officials of the institution where he works for arrogant, rude and insulting behavior.
Wiersma, a minister from the ranks of the VVD party, stated that the decision to resign was not easy, but given the situation, it was inevitable.
The former minister pledged to continue to speak personally to members of staff following two new complaints about his rude and intimidating behaviour.
Complaints about Wiersma first surfaced in April. He promised to correct his behavior several times and apologized to the VVD parliamentary party.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte described his resignation as a real shame. "We are losing someone who put everything into education. And I am very grateful."
