
Talks involving the US, Egypt, Israel and Qatar ended today without results. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held a meeting with CIA Director William Burns and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani with the aim of reaching an agreement on a ceasefire.
Afterwards, a statement by Egypt's state information service cited a "willingness to continue consultation and coordination" on key issues, suggesting no progress had been made.
A Palestinian official said the parties were seeking a formula acceptable to Hamas. A Hamas official said the group told participants it does not believe Israel will not renew the war if the Israeli hostages it is holding are released.
The Israeli delegation left Cairo for home, a Reuters reporter said. The Israeli prime minister's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
While earlier it was said that a truce of 6 weeks and an exchange of prisoners were being discussed. The talks are expected to continue again.
