A serious incident occurred today at a Catholic school in Minnesota, USA.
The gunman who opened fire at the Evangelical Catholic School church in Minneapolis, killing two children, has been identified as Robin Westman, 23. He had changed gender in his teens and identified himself as a woman.
Westman, formerly known as Robert, fired through stained glass windows at children sitting in church pews around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, authorities said. He then turned the gun on himself and killed himself.
At least two of the church doors were boarded up from the outside using 2-by-4-inch wooden planks. Local police chief Brian O'Hara told reporters, suggesting the killer had blocked them to prevent those trapped inside the building from escaping. The rifle, shotgun and pistol used by the young man were all purchased legally.
The FBI is treating the killings as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime against Catholics.
According to KARE 11, Westman's mother worked at the school, and he changed his name to Robin in 2020, when he was 17 years old.
A now-deleted YouTube account believed to belong to Westman uploaded a text that appeared to be a manifesto just hours before the attack. Other videos on the same account show a semi-automatic rifle and a shotgun.
The video also shows a number of guns, bullets and magazines, filmed in what appears to be a bedroom. The ammunition and guns feature a racist and anti-Semitic message, as well as a message calling for the assassination of President Trump.
Donald Trump called Minnesota Governor and former opponent Tim Walz and announced that the White House flags would be at half-staff.
