US President Donald Trump compares himself to Abraham Lincoln when asked why he is constantly being targeted for assassination.
Trump was the subject of two assassination attempts in 2024.
"I ask with respect, why do you think this keeps happening to you?" a reporter asked at the press conference after the incident.
"Well, you know, I've studied assassinations and I have to tell you, the people with the most influence, the people who do the most... Take a look at the people... Abraham Lincoln. I mean, go through the people who went through what it took them to. But the people who do the most, the people who have the most influence, are the ones they follow," Trump replied.
President Lincoln was the first American president to be assassinated after being shot in the head by John Wilkes Booth in 1865.
A serious security incident interrupted the traditional White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night, where US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were evacuated after gunshots were heard in the ballroom of the Washington Hilton hotel, causing panic among attendees.
Authorities said a suspect was arrested at the scene by the FBI, while the Secret Service confirmed the incident occurred near the main security checkpoint at the hotel's entrance. Journalists and guests were forced to hide under tables as security agents drew their guns and shouted "gunshots."
In a later statement from the White House, Trump praised the law enforcement response, saying a Secret Service agent was struck by a bullet that was stopped by his bulletproof vest. He added that investigators were heading to the suspect's California residence.

Trump hurriedly left the scene and he and his cabinet members are all safe.
Moments before appearing at the press conference, President Trump published on his Truth Social account the video taken by security cameras showing the moment the arrested perpetrator crosses the security cordon to enter the premises where the dinner with journalists was being held.
The president says he has just posted on social media a photo of the person in custody, as well as security camera footage that appears to show the shooting beginning.
