US President Joe Biden's administration has received stark warnings from US diplomats in the Arab world that its strong support for Israel's destructive and deadly military campaign in Gaza is losing "the Arab public for a generation".
This is stated in a diplomatic cable provided by the American media, CNN.
The letter underscores US officials' deep concern over the growing anti-American anger that erupted shortly after Israel launched operations against Hamas. The latter had organized an October 7 attack on Israel, where according to Tel Aviv officials, more than 1,400 Israelis were killed.
"We are losing a lot in the information war," he wrote in the cable from the US Embassy in Oman, citing conversations with "a wide range of reliable and intellectual contacts."
Strong American support for Israel's actions is perceived, the cable warns, "as complicity in what they consider possible war crimes."
The embassy cable was written by the second-ranking US official in Muscat and sent to, among others, the White House National Security Council, the CIA and the FBI.
Although it is only a cable from an embassy, it provides a clear picture of the rise of anti-American sentiment in the Middle East.
Another cable obtained by CNN from the US Embassy in Cairo relayed to Washington a comment by an Egyptian state newspaper that "President Biden's cruelty and neglect of the Palestinians has surpassed all previous American presidents."
