"Khamenei's son is alive", Iranian media: He is dealing with
Mojtaba Khamenei

Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is alive and in good health.

According to the Iranian Mehr news agency, he is reviewing "important issues" related to the country, without providing details on their nature.

"Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the Supreme Leader, is completely healthy," the agency was quoted as saying.

Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the supreme leader, is considered by some analysts to be an influential figure behind the scenes. He is reported to have strong ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), one of the most powerful military structures in Iran, as well as to the Basij, the volunteer paramilitary network that operates under the Guard's umbrella.

However, any scenario that envisions a transfer of power from father to son faces political and religious sensitivities within the Islamic Republic. Shiite clerical tradition does not favor dynastic succession of power, especially in a system that was born from the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which overthrew the monarchy.

Formally, Mojtaba Khamenei does not hold an official government position and is not recognized as a high-ranking cleric. He has been on the United States sanctions list since 2019.

There are hints circulating in the media that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, may not be the main contender to lead the country in the future.

Although his name has been mentioned for years by some analysts as an influential figure and a possible successor, there has still been no official confirmation from Iranian authorities that he is a formal candidate for the post of Supreme Leader.
