United States President Donald Trump said Iran is seeking talks with Washington, while American and Israeli military operations against Iranian targets continue.
In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump wrote that Iran's military capabilities and leadership have been severely hit. " Their air defenses, Air Force, Navy and leadership are gone. They want to talk. I said, 'Too late! '" he stressed.
However, over the weekend the president sent a different message, suggesting he was willing to engage in dialogue with Iranian leaders after the attacks. “ They want to talk and I have agreed to talk, so I will talk to them ,” Trump said on Sunday, adding that “they should have done it earlier.”
Before the military operation began, the US and Iran had held three rounds of talks, with the latest round concluding last week in Geneva.
The US president's latest statements come at a time of high tension in the region, while it remains unclear whether there will be a formal resumption of negotiations or whether the parties will continue the military escalation.
