US presidential candidate Trump has finally agreed to hold a televised debate with his Democratic opponent, Harris. The debate will air on ABC on September 10.
Former US President Donald Trump has proposed to his electoral rival Kamala Harris to hold three televised debates in September. The debates will take place on September 4, 10 and 25 on Fox News, NBC and ABC, the Republican presidential candidate said at a brief press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in the US state of Florida. ABC reported that Harris and Trump had agreed to a televised duel on September 10. The date was previously agreed upon between Trump and Democratic US President Joe Biden before Biden dropped out of the race and Harris stepped in.
Trump had previously declined to face Harris on that date and instead proposed a Sept. 4 debate on the right-wing Fox News network, which is affiliated with him. The Harris campaign then accused Trump of "playing games," being "fearful" and wanting to "avoid" the debate. Of course, Trump wanted to refute this charge by proposing three debates.
Harris: "I'm looking forward to it"
Harris is now happy with his commitment: "I heard that Donald Trump has finally agreed to debate me on September 10th. I'm looking forward to it," wrote the 59-year-old candidate on Platform X. She has not written anything about the other dates proposed by Trump. However, at a campaign meeting in the state of Michigan, Harris said she was open to talking about another debate, according to reporters traveling with her.
Trump did not mention any specific conditions, such as whether he would have an audience. Trump's press conference was his first public appearance since Harris chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate on Tuesday.
