United States President Donald Trump has announced that he will increase the global tariff rate on goods imported into the US from 10% to 15%. We recall that he announced the 10% rate yesterday.
According to his statement, any country that exports goods to the United States will be subject to the new 15% tariff.
The president also reiterated criticism of the US Supreme Court, after the latter ruled that some of the customs duties previously imposed by his administration were against the law.
The Supreme Court's ruling limits the executive branch's power to impose tariffs without proper legal approval. Trump opposed the stance, calling it an interference in his administration's trade policies.
The announcement of the tariff hike marks another step in strengthening the White House's protectionist approach to international trade.
"Based on a full, thorough, and thorough review of the ridiculous, poorly written, and extremely un-American Tariff decision issued yesterday, after MANY months, by the Supreme Court of the United States, please allow this statement to serve as representation that I, as President of the United States of America, will immediately raise the 10% World Tariff on countries, many of which have been "dumping" the United States for decades, with impunity (until I got here!), to the fully permitted and legally tested level of 15%," Trump wrote in Truth Social.
