Pope Leo XIV has again called for an end to the war in Iran, addressing US President Donald Trump directly with an appeal to reduce tensions.
During a statement to reporters near his residence in Castel Gandolfo, the Pope said he hopes the US will seek a solution to end the conflict.
"I was told that President Trump recently stated that he would like to end the war. Hopefully he is looking for a way to reduce the amount of violence," he said.
Pope Leo has become increasingly critical of the war, suggesting he opposes policies that lead to escalation. Earlier, he declared that “God rejects the prayers of leaders who start wars and have ‘blood on their hands’,” a comment that was interpreted as an indirect criticism of Trump-Netanyahu.
His statements come at a time when the war in Iran has entered its second month, while international concerns about escalation continue to grow.
