Four climbers were found unconscious in the Vardousia mountains, in mountainous Phocis. Specifically, they are three men and a woman who were found buried in an avalanche.
Rescue teams hoped that the climbers had found safe shelter, as extreme weather conditions prevailed in the area.
The three men had left the village of Athanasios Diakos on Thursday morning with the intention of following a mountain path towards a difficult point in the area. Since then, they had not shown any signs of life. Earlier in the day, the climbers' car was found in the Athanasios Diakos area.
Around 30 firefighters from the 1st, 6th, 7th and 8th EMAK mountaineering teams participated in the operation, while since the morning a drone had been combing the difficult spots in the area from the air.
