After 130 days in government, Musk leaves Trump administration amid budget clashes, criticism of bills and tensions with officials

Elon Musk has officially announced his departure from his role as Senior Advisor to the Trump administration, closing a tense chapter that included severe budget cuts, clashes with other officials and public criticism of the President himself.
In a surprise post on his social network X, Musk announced the end of his term as "Special Government Employee," thanking the president for the opportunity but also hinting at the discontent that had built up over the months. "The DOGE mission will only get stronger," he wrote, referring to the Department of Government Efficiency that he headed.
His departure comes just a day after CBS aired an interview in which Musk heavily criticized Trump's proposed bill, calling it a "massive spending bill" that "increases the federal deficit" and "undermines the work of reform." A statement that was interpreted as a clear signal of separation from the president's political line.
Sources within the administration claim that clashes between Musk and other officials have been constant, especially due to his aggressive approach to structural reforms and budget cuts, from $2 trillion at the beginning to just $150 billion at the end.
Although Trump tried to maintain a moderate tone by declaring that "there is still a way to go," Musk's departure is a clear signal of divisions within the administration and a setback for any serious effort to reorganize the federal government.
It remains to be seen whether DOGE will manage to survive without the iconic figure who led it for 130 days, or whether it will be undone like many other "reformist" initiatives of this administration. /Pamphlet
