Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Germany to take steps to free thousands of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel.
"Israel has nearly 10,000 hostages. As Germany, take the step to release them, while we will make efforts to release those currently held by Hamas," Erdogan said at the 62nd General Assembly of the Turkish National Union of Students.
Erdogan was in Berlin on a one-day official visit on Friday, where he met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 and took over 200 Israeli hostages in the enclave.
Since then, Israel has continued its air and ground attacks on Gaza, killing at least 12,000 Palestinians. The official death toll in Israel is around 1,200.
Thousands of buildings, including hospitals, mosques and churches, have also been damaged or destroyed.
Meanwhile, Israel holds thousands of Palestinian prisoners in administrative detention, without trial, reports Anadolu.
