UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says he is "deeply shocked" that two UN schools were attacked in less than 24 hours in Gaza.
" Dozens of people - many women and children - were killed and injured as they sought safety at the United Nations premises. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians are seeking refuge in United Nations facilities across Gaza due to intensified fighting. I reaffirm that our facilities are inviolable ," Guterres said in a statement.
He added that the war had an "unacceptable" number of civilian casualties and reiterated his call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.
Guterres has been a strong voice against the Israeli attacks on Gaza, as he has often called them genocide. On the other hand, Israel has attacked the head of the UN, demanding his resignation.
