Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has asked Israel to stop its attacks on Gaza, denouncing them as genocide. He called for global efforts to establish a humanitarian ceasefire.
Turkey, a supporter of the Palestinian cause and a proponent of a two-state resolution, is hosting Hamas members and has offered mediation in the conflict.
Despite initially seeking to improve relations with Israel, Ankara has strengthened its position in response to the escalating crisis, although its humanitarian aid to Gaza remains confined to Egypt's closed borders.
" I repeat my call to the Israeli leadership to never expand the scope of its attacks on civilians and immediately end its operations that lead to genocide ," Erdogan said on the X platform.
He added that Israel was provoking non-regional actors instead of reflecting on its mistakes in Gaza, and said the region needed to escape the "raving of madness" supported by Western powers and media. Erdogan also said Ankara was working to end the fighting before it reached "a point of no return".
