Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., in Istanbul last week. The meeting was revealed by the head of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), Ozgur Ozel, who said issues related to Gaza and business were discussed.
A source from the presidency claimed that it was a "formal meeting", during which neither the situation in Gaza nor any business issues were discussed. According to sources cited by Middle East Eye, Donald Trump Jr. was accompanied by a delegation.
"While Palestine is bleeding, they are doing business with Trump's son through companies and lobbies ," Ozel argued, adding that on the Palestinian issue, Erdogan claims to criticize Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but does not say a word about Trump.
A Turkish source close to Erdogan told DW on Wednesday that Trump Jr. met with the president, but described the meeting as simply an "official visit." The source maintained that no formal discussion took place about Gaza or other specific issues, dismissing Özel's claims.
Although the 47-year-old holds no official role in his father's administration, he is considered a highly influential figure in the White House. He currently serves as executive vice chairman of the Trump Organization. According to MEE, Trump Jr. visited Turkey accompanied by several businessmen with similar interests.
