The US State Department confirmed on Monday that at least nine US citizens were killed in Hamas' weekend attacks on Israel.
The US said, however, that an unspecified number of US citizens remain missing and unaccounted for. According to them, it is still not clear whether the missing were taken hostage, killed or hid.
Spokesman Matthew Miller stated that the State Department is in contact with the families "and is providing all appropriate consular assistance."
The number of victims may still rise as missing persons can be found in the ruins of buildings brought down by rocket attacks.
