Israeli attacks in Beirut, WHO raises alarm: Hospitals in Lebanon on the verge

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the alarm that some hospitals in Lebanon risk running out of life-saving trauma management medical kits, just days after heavy Israeli bombardment on Wednesday.

“Some of the supplies for trauma management were already in short supply and we could run out within a few days ,” Dr. Abdinasir Abubakar, the WHO representative in Lebanon, told Reuters.

The trauma kits include essential supplies such as bandages, antibiotics and anesthetics, which are vital for treating those wounded in war attacks. According to the WHO, Lebanon's health system is already under great pressure due to the high number of casualties and injuries.

Wednesday's Israeli strikes killed at least 254 people and wounded more than 1,100 across Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Civil Defense. 91 deaths were reported in the capital Beirut alone.

The latest attacks have overwhelmed hospitals, which are struggling with limited supplies, reduced staffing and damaged infrastructure. The WHO has warned that without urgent new supplies, the capacity to treat the seriously injured will be significantly reduced in the coming days.

This situation comes at a time when Lebanon is facing a deepening humanitarian crisis, with thousands displaced and a health system that is on the verge of collapse after months of tensions and repeated attacks.

The WHO has called for immediate humanitarian access and additional supplies to avoid a further health catastrophe.
