With negotiations in Qatar clearly at an impasse, the Israelis may find that using military pressure to tighten the screws on Hamas again is their most effective strategy for extracting more hostages.
Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to call his negotiating team home from Qatar means that Israel has made the decision that Hamas is either not interested in another ceasefire or is not offering anything that would satisfy the Israelis who to make concessions.
This does not necessarily mean that the negotiations have completely ceased. Although Mossad officials are no longer in Doha in person, there are other channels of communication open between the two sides - and other mediators, including Qatar and Egypt, will continue their dialogue with Hamas to reach a solution.
But like anything, it seems to be a clear signal from the Israelis that there is nothing else for them to talk about at this point. The other very clear signal from the Israelis since the ceasefire was broken yesterday morning is that they are fighting hard in Gaza.
From our position in Sderot, just a mile from Israel's border with northern Gaza, we have seen and heard Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire over the past 24 hours.
Hamas has responded with rocket barrages in the direction of southern Israel. There is a strong belief among those close to Netanyahu that Hamas will be more likely to accept and release more hostages if they are under severe military pressure.
This was also the belief of the Israeli Prime Minister when the first pause was agreed a little over a week ago - that it was created mainly as a result of the heavy fighting that had been going on for several weeks.
