The fate of Gaza at the crossroads/ Hamas accepts the ceasefire, Israel starts

According to reports, Israel has expressed that Hamas has accepted a "moderate" version of the agreement, proposed by Egypt, which for them is "unacceptable"!

Hamas has announced that it has accepted a proposal from the negotiating pair Egypt-Qatar for a ceasefire. Hamas issued a statement on Monday saying its supreme leader, Ismail Haniyeh, had made the news in a phone call with Qatar's prime minister and Egypt's intelligence minister.

The two Middle Eastern countries have brokered months of talks between Israel and Hamas. While there was no immediate comment from Israel.

Israel gave Hamas a week to accept the proposed deal, or it would launch its assault on Rafah. Today, Israel released leaflets from the sky warning of the launch of the offensive in southern Gaza. This action on the part of Israel seems to have forced Hamas to make a decision to accept the ceasefire.

On the other hand, the ceasefire agreement accepted by Hamas has not been accepted by Israel. According to reports, Israel has expressed that Hamas has accepted a "moderate" version of the agreement, proposed by Egypt, which for them is "unacceptable"!

Reuters reports that an Israeli official stated that the announcement by Hamas is simply a "hoax" intended to portray Israel as the party that does not want to accept a deal.

What about the offensive in Rafah?

Hamas's announcement comes after Israel announced an offensive targeting Rafah, Gaza's southernmost city, earlier today.

More than a million Gazans have taken refuge in the city due to conflict elsewhere in the Gaza Strip. International leaders including Rishi Sunak and Joe Biden have repeatedly warned Israel against an offensive in Rafah, where aid agencies are trying to help the displaced.

But Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's prime minister, delivered a defiant speech on Sunday vowing to root out the remaining Hamas forces in the Rafah area, as airstrikes appeared to have begun in the city today./Pamphlet
