
The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, today visited the flooded areas, which are living a nightmare in the last 24 hours due to the storm Daniel.
Mitsotakis landed by helicopter at the Karditsa stadium, where he spoke to evacuated residents, members of flood-fighting forces and volunteers, foreign media reported.
The Prime Minister went to the flooded areas of Kardita and Trikala to ascertain the extent of the disaster and the current situation. Then he will go to the coordination center, in the building of the District of Thessaly, in Larisa, where he will hold a meeting with those responsible for coordinating the work for the rescue of residents and the restoration of infrastructure.
Thessaly and especially Volos, Kardita, Trikala and Larissa are experiencing an unprecedented disaster with rescue teams unable to access many villages while residents remain trapped.
The local media report that there is a possibility of the Pinio river flooding in the city of Larissa as well. From yesterday, by order of the Prime Minister, an Operational Center was set up at the regional headquarters in Larisa, for the better coordination of all actions in Magnezi, Kardica, Trikala and Larisa, which will be in direct cooperation and coordination , centrally with the Ministry of Defense and Politics.
Also, the prime minister is holding continuous meetings with his staff to find additional means and resources that will be allocated for the immediate relief of those affected, but above all for the rescue of those citizens who are in danger.
