Two weeks ago, among the main news in Italy was the eruption of the volcano Etna (Sicily). But the end of August has found the height near the crater and the surroundings of the mountain "clothed" with a white veil.
The sudden winter, qualifies "La Repubblica" as a rare natural event, accompanied by a video.
On the evening of August 27, temperatures on Etna dropped and a dense hail storm transformed the summit of the volcano into an almost magical and sci-fi landscape.
"The first snow on Etna", writes the author of the video, Matteo (teo_appio), a pilot who filmed with his plane on Instagram the spectacle of bleached craters.
"From the still-hot abyssal streams, passing from the North Crater to the Southeast Crater," the video's description reads further.
Many on social networks have talked about "snow on Etna". Actually, according to meteorologists, it's hail. Very cold at altitude and stifling heat in the city.
In Catania, in fact, in the same hours, the temperature reached 30 degrees with a very high level of humidity. A surprising climatic contrast, but not new to those who live on the slopes of Europe's highest active volcano.
