Tens of thousands of people around the world have been left disappointed as a result of the cancellation of fireworks displays or large celebrations ahead of December 31st.
Some unofficial celebrations were canceled after the FBI thwarted a planned bomb plot in Los Angeles.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli revealed that drone surveillance footage captured the suspects attempting to build an explosive device. The four alleged conspirators were identified as Audrey Illeene Carroll, 30; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, 41, all residents of the Los Angeles area, the Mirror reports.
Despite the terrorist threat, Los Angeles has not canceled any official New Year's celebrations.
However, many major celebrations have been canceled around the world due to security concerns.
Sydney
Australians remain shocked by the horrific shooting at Bondi Beach that claimed 15 lives and injured 40 others. As a result, the New Year's Eve fireworks display on the beach has been canceled.
"Due to the current situation on the ground, Waverley Council has decided to cancel New Year's Eve events at Bondi Beach, including elrow XXL Bondi and Local's Lawn," organisers at Waverley Council told Sky News.
The decision was made with "compassion and concern for Sydney's Jewish community in mind," they explained. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns stated that the ongoing threat of anti-Semitism meant Jews were not completely safe.
He stated that "the real test for us will be a year from now, five years from now, 15 years from now, when the Jewish community feels safe in its community. I've spoken to so many members of the Jewish community in the last week who don't feel safe. They don't feel safe celebrating their religion, they don't feel safe gathering as a community, and we can't have a situation where the solution to this terrible terrorist event is to have the Jewish community so that we can exist and celebrate our faith only behind great walls."
But Sydney will continue to host the fireworks show, ensuring that the legendary annual spectacle of live pyrotechnics over the famous Opera House will continue. Those attending will be offered an opportunity for silent reflection to remember those who lost their lives in Bondi.

Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, an alternative spectacle will replace the traditional fireworks display after it was canceled. The decision comes after the city's most devastating fire in decades.
The fire claimed the lives of at least 160 people at Wang Fuk Court, a housing estate in the northern suburb of Tai Po. The estate was undergoing extensive renovations, with buildings wrapped in bamboo scaffolding and green netting. Victims of the tragic fire ranged from a 1-year-old baby to a 97-year-old man, according to police reports.
