The Russian foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, has said that the West's plot to weaken Russia by supporting Ukraine in the conflict is destined to fail. According to him, the main goal of the West is to destroy Russia in order to maintain its hegemony.
" They (Western countries) are obsessed with preventing the formation of a democratic world order, a multipolar world order, and are grasping at every opportunity to protect their hegemony. Of course, they see in Ukraine, first of all, a tool to prevent the emergence of a multipolar world, in this case, by preventing Russia from strengthening. It is clear that this plot is doomed to fail," the top Russian diplomat told Channel One's "The Big Game" program.
According to Lavrov, the Americans have been very strict in their denials that they have nothing to do with the June 24 rebellion in Russia, while the Europeans were much clearer about their interests in this particular situation.
According to him, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the main conclusion he drew from what happened in Russia was confirmation of the fact that the EU had to continue arming Ukraine to "destroy" Russia.
Lavrov also noted the remarks of French President Emmanuel Macron, who said the incident allegedly showed the fragility and weakness of Russia and the Russian military, which justified the West's course of supporting Ukraine.
" We can discuss the reasons for such a position publicly, so that the whole world knows where we stand. I probably agree with those experts who see the fear of the future of nuclear weapons as one of the reasons for a position of like that. That's probably always a concern in those situations where [nuclear powers] are doing something worrisome ," the top diplomat said.
