The control forces of the Independent Authority of Public Revenue (AADE) in Greece have carried out another successful operation against international drug trafficking, seizing a large quantity of cocaine at the port of Piraeus.
According to Greek media, the operation was carried out by the Financial Transactions Control Forces (DEOS), in collaboration with auditors of the First Customs Control Center of Piraeus, after a detailed risk analysis.
During the inspection of a suspicious container originating from Ecuador, authorities discovered 40 carefully hidden packages of cocaine. The seized drugs had a total weight of 46 kilograms.
According to authorities, the value of the cargo on the illegal market is estimated to exceed 1.7 million euros.
Preliminary investigations have also identified the mode of operation of criminal organizations, which use trade routes to import and traffic narcotics from Latin American countries to Europe through Greece.
DEOS investigations continue, with the aim of fully uncovering the criminal network and identifying the persons involved in this illegal activity.
