Chinese President Xi Jinping has hosted a grand state dinner for Donald Trump in Beijing, where the spotlight was on the carefully selected menu for the American president and his delegation.
According to the list released to journalists accompanying Trump, guests were served some of the most popular dishes of Chinese cuisine, combined with flavors closer to the American president's preferences.
The menu included “crispy beef ribs”, “roasted duck”, “stewed seasonal vegetables” and “pan-fried pork buns”.
The table also featured "lobsters in tomato soup" and "slow-cooked salmon in mustard sauce," while tiramisu and ice cream were served for dessert.
Roast duck in Beijing is considered one of the symbolic dishes of the Chinese capital, while pork fried bread is a traditional specialty of the southeastern regions of China, especially in Shanghai.
The dinner was seen not only as a protocol moment, but also as another symbolic display of Chinese diplomacy, where food and ceremony were used to emphasize the importance of relations between Beijing and Washington.
