New blow to Tehran, Emirates considers freezing billions of Iranian assets

The Wall Street Journal report reveals the plan that could cut off Tehran's financial oxygen

The United Arab Emirates is considering a move that could directly hit Iran's finances. The Abu Dhabi government is considering freezing billions of dollars in Iranian assets held in the country's banking and financial system.

The Wall Street Journal reports that UAE authorities are discussing a measure targeting Tehran's shadowy financial networks in the Gulf region, which use intermediary companies and trading structures to circulate foreign currency and finance the Iranian regime's operations abroad.

Freezing these funds could block a large part of the foreign exchange reserves that Iran uses for international trade and to finance its allies in the region. The newspaper's sources emphasize that such a decision would significantly weaken Tehran's financial capacity.

The debate in the Emirates comes as the conflict in the Middle East escalates. Iran has carried out several attacks in the region and on Emirati territory in response to the war launched by the United States and Israel against the Iranian regime.

Military operations in recent days led to the assassination of Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, as well as several senior regime officials. The attacks also caused hundreds of civilian casualties, according to reports from the region.

If the Emirates approves the measure, Tehran risks losing one of the main financial channels in the Persian Gulf. The decision would deepen economic pressure on Iran at a time when the war in the region is entering an even more severe phase.
