Houthi group attacks southern Israel with drones, Ramon International Airport

The Israeli military announced that a drone launched from Yemen by the Houthi militant group has hit Israel's southern airport, closing its airspace and halting flights.

Israel says the Houthis launched several drones, some of which were intercepted outside Israel. At least one of them hit the passenger terminal of Ramon International Airport near the southern Israeli city of Eilat, according to the Israel Airports Authority.

In May, a Houthi missile struck near Israel's main airport, lightly injuring four people and causing many airlines to cancel their flights to Israel for months. Israel later struck and destroyed the main airport in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa.

According to Israel's rescue services, Magen David Adom, one person was slightly injured at the airport as a result of the attack.

Sunday's attack came two weeks after an Israeli strike on Sanaa, the rebel-held capital of Yemen, killed the prime minister of the Houthi government, along with many members of his cabinet.

Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi is the highest-ranking Houthi rebel official killed in the Israeli-American campaign against the Iran-backed rebels.
