Iran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has warned that the US's "overt and covert moves" show that the Trump administration is "seeking a new round of war" against Iran.
In an audio message published by Iranian state media, Ghalibaf stated that Iranian military forces have used the ceasefire period to strengthen their military capabilities.
"People can be sure that our military forces have used the opportunity of the ceasefire in the best way to rebuild their strength. We will make the enemy regret any renewed aggression against Iran," said Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
The statements come a day after Donald Trump claimed he was just an hour away from ordering new strikes on Iran, while Vice President JD Vance warned that the US could take military action in the absence of a peace deal.
Ghalibaf, who also holds the post of speaker of the Iranian parliament, also spoke about the economic difficulties in the country and the rising cost of living for Iranian citizens.
"Some criticism of the government is as if no war ever happened," he added.
In his latest reactions, the Iranian official has also directly attacked JD Vance, referring to the autobiographical book "Hillbilly Elegy", which describes the consequences of American wars on poor Appalachian communities.
"Hillbilly 2 is coming," Ghalibaf wrote on X, saying that America's "poor and forgotten" were footing the bill for the war in Iran.
