China has called on the US to "immediately" release Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who are in US custody after being kidnapped by US forces from the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.
"China calls on the US to provide security to President Maduro and his wife, immediately release President Maduro and his wife, stop attempts to overthrow the Venezuelan regime, and resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiations," Beijing's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Beijing previously said it was "deeply shocked and strongly condemns the US's blatant use of force against a sovereign state."
Russia and Iran have also taken a stand against the US, condemning Saturday's attacks on Venezuela.
The Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement that it "strongly condemns the US military attack on Venezuela and the flagrant violation of the country's national sovereignty and territorial integrity."
