Hundreds of thousands of migrants will be forced to leave the United Kingdom if the Reform UK party wins the upcoming election, its leader Nigel Farage has said, insisting the move would save the state more than £230 billion.

The party leader has vowed to stop what he calls the scam of permanent legal residency for foreign nationals and has warned that failing to address the problem is a "fiscal time bomb" that could lead to the country's bankruptcy.

Farage promises to abolish the status known as "indefinite leave to remain" (ILR), which entitles migrants who have lived in the UK for more than five years to receive welfare benefits and apply for citizenship.

Reform UK estimates that 3.8 million post-pandemic migrants will be eligible for ILR between 2026 and 2030, and claims that many of them will end up on the welfare system or are unskilled workers who will bring other family members to join them.

By banning them from staying in the UK, Farage says £234 billion will be saved over their lifetime, which will be used for social benefits.

FARAGA'S PLAN:

· No new ILRs will be issued.

· Immigrants who already have this status (called “settled status”) will lose it

· Those who want to live in the UK will need to apply for a 5-year renewable visa, with stricter conditions, such as:

o Knowledge of English

o High income

o Limitations on the number of family members who can bring

Those who do not meet the criteria will lose state benefits and will be expected to leave voluntarily or face deportation, under Reform UK's tough plan for illegal immigration, called Operation Justice Restored.

The official document, to be published on Monday, says the changes will be made gradually and in a regular manner, so that businesses have time to train British workers to replace the migrants. Reform UK says it is sending a signal that the era of cheap foreign labour is over.

Farage has also pledged that only British citizens will be eligible for social benefits. The waiting period for citizenship, which is currently one year after obtaining permanent residence status, will be extended, to prevent citizenship being granted "freely", he said.

"The Conservatives and Labour have turned the UK into a food bank for the whole world," said Farage.
