But the moment that touched many people and made waves around the world was when Erica Kirk forgave her husband's killer. Erica Kirk promised to continue his work, speaking with religious faith and determination.
"I forgive this man, this young man. I forgive him because this is what Christ did and this is what Charlie would do," said Erica Kirk, explaining that the answer to hatred is love, as the Gospel teaches.
Erica Kirk teared up when she spoke about her murdered husband, looked up at the sky when she spoke about him, and found comfort in the arms of Donald Trump.
