Drone attack on Poland, Trump's "enigmatic" message

The Truth Social platform was chosen by US President Donald Trump for his initial response to the Russian drone invasion of Poland.

And he chose to say "Here we are." A phrase that can mean "we started," "we set off," "here we are," "let's get started," and other related meanings.

Specifically, Donald Trump wrote, "What's going on with Russia violating Polish airspace with drones?" before finishing by writing, "Here we are."

However, this is not the first US reaction today, as Washington's ambassador to NATO declared that the country will defend "every inch of NATO territory."

These comments would come as a relief to NATO's European member states, following Trump's repeated statements questioning his commitment to the alliance.

"We are this close to war for the first time"

The West is on alert after the drone attack in Polish airspace. Donald Tusk directly accused Russia of trying to attack Poland with drones, while Moscow in its first public statement responded that there is no evidence from Poland that the drones that were shot down were Russian.

However, developments are rapid, as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has requested the activation of NATO's Article 4 and announced that there have been a total of 19 violations of his country's airspace.

Article 4 states that member countries may request consultations among allies if one of them considers that “the territorial integrity, political independence or security of one of the parties is threatened.” Consultation among states is a central process for NATO, as all decisions are taken by consensus.

These meetings then allow Allies to “exchange views and information and hold discussions before reaching an agreement and taking action.” The matter brought to the attention of the North Atlantic Council, NATO’s highest political decision-making body, is considered after Article 4 is activated. This may lead to a joint decision or “joint action to be taken by the Alliance.”

But "regardless of the scenario, other Council members are encouraged to react to a situation that a member state brings to their attention," NATO recalls on its website.

Since the Alliance's founding in 1949, Article 4 has been invoked seven times.
