
A very strong earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale, occurred at 14:58 (09:58 local time) in the maritime area 224 kilometers from Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, southern Argentina.
The shaking was so strong that it was even felt in Chile.
According to Chile's National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred), the earthquake was felt in the Magallanes region, the largest by area and the second most sparsely populated city in the south of the country.
Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued in Chile, resulting in local authorities ordering the evacuation of the area.

"The National Disaster Prevention and Response System continues to assess the impact on people and damage to infrastructure and essential services, the results of which will be reported through incident reports or emergency updates prepared by Senapred," the agency said.
The National Seismological Center reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.9 and was located 218 kilometers south of Puerto Williams.
