Iran has only 1 condition to open the Strait of Hormuz: Financial compensation

The Strait of Hormuz will only reopen when the damages from the imposed war are fully compensated...

A senior Iranian official has responded to US President Donald Trump's latest ultimatum, saying the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil shipping route, will only be "reopened" when the financial damages from the war are "fully compensated."

Earlier today, Trump issued a message filled with insults to Iran, warning of harsh military action if Tehran fails to reach a deal or reopen the vital waterway.

In response, Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy communications director in the office of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, said the American leader's dirty words were spoken out of pure desperation and rage. He accused Trump of inciting a "general war in the region."

"The Strait of Hormuz will only be reopened when, under a new legal regime, the damages from the imposed war are fully compensated by a portion of the revenue from transit taxes ," Tabatabaei posted on X.

Iranian officials have previously said they will continue to impose fees for the safe passage of some tankers through the strait, a proposal that has faced fierce backlash from governments and shipping industry experts.

Meanwhile, Iran's mission to the United Nations said Trump's message was an open threat to destroy infrastructure essential to the survival of civilians in Iran.

“The international community and all states have legal obligations to prevent such horrific acts of war crimes. They must act now. Tomorrow is too late ,” the mission said in a statement.

Recall that yesterday Trump gave Iran a harsh 48-hour ultimatum, warning that if Tehran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz or reach a peace agreement within this deadline, the United States will strike critical Iranian infrastructure, including major power plants.
