US President Donald Trump has given Israel an ultimatum not to repeat its attacks on Iranian natural gas infrastructure, while attacks against power plants led to a spiraling increase in energy prices, significantly escalating the US-Israeli war against Iran.

Trump's comment came as energy prices rose sharply on Thursday after Iran responded to an Israeli attack on a major gas field by striking Qatar's Ras Laffan Industrial City, which processes about a fifth of the world's liquefied natural gas, causing damage that will take years to repair.

Saudi Arabia's main port on the Red Sea, where it has been able to divert some exports to avoid Iran's closure of the Gulf's exit point, the Strait of Hormuz, was also attacked.

"I told him, don't do this, and he won't do this," he told reporters in the Oval Office, where he met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

A US official and three other people familiar with the planning told Reuters that Trump was considering sending thousands more US troops to the Middle East.

But in his meeting with Takaichi, Trump said he had no plans to deploy ground forces.

"I'm not going to deploy troops anywhere," he said. "If I had planned to, I certainly wouldn't tell you. But I'm not sending troops. We'll do whatever is necessary."

Iran has claimed responsibility for the downing of a US F-35 fighter jet that was forced to make an emergency landing. State television showed footage of what it claims is "the moment the F-35 fighter jet crashed over Iran." According to Central Command, the plane landed safely at a US base and the pilot is in stable condition.

Israel is not “even halfway” through its campaign against Iran, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir stated in an internal discussion, according to the Times of Israel. Furthermore, according to Channel 12, Israeli military officials believe there is no clear timeline for ending the war, while the IDF leadership is unanimous in opposing a suspension of operations at this stage.
