Just hours after Donald Trump announced that the US would meet with Iran in Doha, Tehran officially denied the claim. The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that there is no meeting planned with the American side and that the focus is on implementing the existing agreement.
The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the negotiating team, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated that the Iranian government's priority is to implement the points agreed upon in the memorandum and ensure that the American side fulfills its obligations.
"No negotiation meetings with the United States at any level are planned in the coming days. Our current priority is implementing the memorandum of understanding and pursuing Iran's demands under this agreement," he said.
Baghaei announced that the United States has issued the necessary licenses under Article 10, which relates to oil sales, while Iran is monitoring their implementation.
He added that the implementation of Clause 11, which provides for the release of Iranian assets frozen abroad, is also being pursued. For this reason, a delegation of Iranian experts will travel to Doha this week.
"We are following up on the implementation of Article 10 on oil sales, as well as Clause 11 related to the release of Iran's frozen assets. A delegation of experts will travel to Doha to follow up on the implementation of the memorandum," the Iranian spokesman said.
According to him, the process has not yet entered the phase of negotiations for a final agreement, as the memorandum itself stipulates that this phase can only begin after some of its main articles have been implemented.
"Iran and the United States have not yet entered the phase of negotiations for a final agreement. According to Article 13 of the memorandum, this phase can only begin after Articles 1, 4, 5, 10 and 11 have begun to be implemented," Esmaeil Baghaei concluded.
Baghaei also clarified that any possible visit by American representatives to Qatar is not related to the mission of the Iranian delegation, which has as its exclusive objective monitoring the implementation of the memorandum.
