The former ambassador of Kiev in Berlin: Germany can mediate the Russia-Ukraine

The former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, has called on Berlin to start diplomatic mediation to stop the war in Ukraine.

Melnyk stated that Chancellor Olaf Scholz could use Germany's diplomatic channels to explore whether talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin would be worthwhile.

Andriy Melnyk was Ukraine's ambassador to Germany from 2015 to 2022 and is now ambassador to Brazil.

He has become widely known in Germany for his demands and growing impatience with the German government's reluctance to offer further support to Kiev as Ukraine seeks to repel a full-scale Russian invasion, launched in February 2022.

His statement comes on the day German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for renewed efforts to bring peace to Ukraine, saying he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky agreed that a new peace conference was needed in which would also include Russia.
