A reaction has also come from President Biden, who has shown why Hamas attacked now.

Palestinian media reported heavy Israeli shelling of Gaza overnight, including an attack on a house in Jabalia in northern Gaza that killed at least 19 people.

Israeli jets struck six houses in northern Gaza early Saturday, killing at least eight Palestinians and injuring 45, Palestinian media reported.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

The Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the main Palestinian Christian faith, said Israeli forces had struck the Church of St. Porphyry in Gaza City, where hundreds of Christians and Muslims had sought refuge.

Meanwhile, there was also a reaction from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the developments of the war and the release of the hostages. He has vowed to "fight to victory" in Gaza, signaling there will be no end to Israel's bombardment and expected occupation of the enclave after Hamas released two American hostages.

Last night the Islamic group released American mother and daughter Judith and Natalie Raanan, who were kidnapped in its attack in southern Israel on October 7.

They were the first hostages confirmed by either side in the conflict to be freed since Hamas attacked Israel, killing 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and taking around 200 hostages.

"Two of our abductees are at home. We are not giving up our efforts to return all abducted and missing people. At the same time, we will continue to fight until victory," Netanyahu said.

A reaction has also come from President Biden, who has shown why Hamas attacked now. Joe Biden has said he thinks Hamas was motivated to attack Israel in part by a desire to stop the country's normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia.

"One of the reasons why Hamas moved against Israel ... was that they knew I was going to sit down with the Saudis," he said at a fundraising event.

The president indicated that he thinks Hamas launched the attack on October 7 because the Saudis wanted to recognize Israel" and were ready to do so officially.

Jerusalem and Riyadh had moved steadily closer to normalization, with Mr Biden working to help bring the two countries closer, announcing plans last month at the G20 summit in India to partner on a maritime corridor.
