Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to form an emergency government with the opposition party in a bid to shore up security decision-making.
Opposition leader Benny Gantz, who previously served as army chief and defense minister, will join the government.
Both sides agreed to form a war cabinet consisting of Mr. Netanyahu, Mr. Gantz and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
They previously reported they were moving towards a deal after meeting for half an hour in Tel Aviv earlier today. The agreement marks a dramatic shift in Israeli political alignments, even if it is temporary.
Gantz had called for the prime minister to resign over what he called Netanyahu's embrace of extremists.
He is said to have pressed for a war cabinet with "real influence" over the management of the war.
