The United Nations agency for Palestine refugees told The Associated Press today that nine of its staff have been killed in airstrikes since Israeli bombardment of Gaza began on Saturday.
" The protection of civilians is paramount, including in times of conflict. They must be protected in accordance with the laws of war ," said Juliette Touma, director of communications for the agency, known as UNRWA.
Touma said the attacks killed UN workers in their homes across the territory. It also said that 18 UNRWA schools turned into shelters were damaged by the bombing and that its headquarters in Gaza City was also damaged, without causing casualties.
